TOEFL, TOEIC, and IELTS. Of the three
terms there are differences - each.
TOEFL, TOEIC, and IELTS are programs used to test English language
skills created by ETS (Education Testing Service), an institution from the
United States. Then, what is the
difference from the program?
TOEFL
TOEFL is an abbreviation of (Test of English as a Foreign
Language) made by ETS (Education Testing Service). The TOEFL test is used for entrance tests to
universities in the United States and other countries. There are two forms of TOEFL test, namely CBT
(Computer Best Test) and PBT (Paper Best test)
This TOEFL test is the most common test for people who do
not use the main language in English.
From this test it can also be known whether someone can follow
communication and learning in using English as the main language. For the score of the TOEFL test is 310 - 677
points. In contrast to iBT or CBT, the
total score obtained in the TOEFL iBT / CBT test is 120.
TOEFL FUNCTION
Apart from entering college, there are several functions of the TOEFL test. The functions of the TOEFL are as follows:
- As one of the requirements to participate in the Short Course Program abroad, and you need to have this TOEFL certificate with a certain value.
- To measure the ability to speak English.
- As a condition of registration for secondary schools (S-1, S-2, S-3) both in Indonesia and in other countries
- As an applicant, I apply for a job both domestically and abroad
TEST FORM OF TOEFL
CBT (Computer Best Test)
As explained earlier, the TOEFL
test consists of two forms of test namely, CBT (Computer Best Test) & PBT
(Paper Best test). This CBT test was
originally called the IBT (Internet Best Test) and is now referred to as the
CBT (Computer Best Test)
The tests for having a CBT-based
TOEFL certificate are:
Reading
Reading or reading in the TOEFL test consists of 3-4
academic-themed discourses. For the
reading test, there are about 700 words on each discourse that are tested. The level of difficulty will be presented
with the same size as the contents of the book at the undergraduate level. Participants will be asked to answer the
contents of the discourse, about the main thoughts, the content of the
discourse, vocabulary, and others contained in the discourse
Listening
Listening or listening (listening) is a form of the second
TOEFL test. In this session participants
will be asked to listen and listen to the discourse discussed, ranging from 6-9
discourses in each test. The form of the
Listening discourse test consists of two conversations and four
discussions. The duration of each
discourse ranges from 3 - 5 minutes, and in this session participants are
allowed to take notes from the discourse discussed.
Speaking
Speaking or speaking on the TOEFL test is used to test the
ability to speak in English. This test
will be judged on the ability to speak in English with structured in conveying
ideas or ideas. In this test
participants will be asked to answer spontaneously from questions related to
explanations or ideas that have been heard, and from each answer participants
will be recorded and sent to be assessed.
Writing
During a Writing session, participants will be tested on
their writing skills in English. In this
test there are usually two forms of test namely free writing and writing with a
predetermined theme. Writing will be
judged by the structure and writing of English words.
PBT
(Paper Best Test)
PBT (Paper Best Test) is a form of test on TOEFL that uses
paper as a medium for testing English language proficiency in TOEFL.
The TOEFL test using PBT is as follows:
Listening
Listening or listening (Listening) is part of the PBT (Paper
Best Test) based TOEFL test where participants will be asked to listen and hear
about discourse or questions related to the conversation being listened
to. In this test there are 3 parts. In the first part consists of 30 questions,
this question is related to conversation.
In the second part there are 8 questions which are longer than the
questions in the first part. And finally
the third part consists of 12 questions related to the discussion.
Structure
& Written Expression
In this session, participants will be asked to complete
sentences and look for errors in a sentence.
In this session the duration is no more than 25 minutes
Reading
Comprehension
In the Reading session or reading consists of 50 questions
that must be completed by the participant.
In this session participants will be given 55 minutes to complete the
questions.
Writing
Writing or writing is a session on the PBT test on the TOEFL
where participants will be asked to make a 250-300 word essay with a duration
of no more than 30 minutes.
TOEIC
TOEIC stands for Test of English for International
communicating. The TOEIC test is
specifically designed to test English proficiency in everyday contexts, such as
working in an international environment for example. The TOEIC test is not much different from the
TOEFL Test, there are several forms of test namely, Listening and Reading, Speaking
& Writing, and finally the TOEIC Bridge.
TOEIC
FUNCTION
As explained earlier, this TOEIC is specifically designed to
test English language proficiency in daily life or contexts. So from the TOEIC Test, you can determine the
extent of your ability to speak English, so the TOEIC test is more emphasized
to test your English language skills when you are in an international
professional environment.
In addition, there are several functions of this TOEIC
test. The tests are as follows:

As a qualification for a new position or
promotion in a company.

To monitor the extent of your ability in English

As one of the indicators of employee's English
ability to be evaluated.
TEST
FORM OF TOEIC
In the TOEIC test, there is a structural part of the test
where participants must complete each session and the structure of the TOEIC
test. As explained before, this TOEIC
test is grouped into 3 test sessions namely TOEIC Listening & Reading,
TOEIC Speaking & Writing, and TOEIC Bridge.
From the three parts of the test there is a separate assessment in each
test session, for more details, we refer to the explanation below.
TOEIC
Listening & Reading
The listening and reading test in the TOEIC Test serves to
measure the ability of participants where participants can understand English
that is heard or read well and are structured, and can be applied in daily
life. In this test there are 200
questions in multiple choice format which are divided into two sessions,
namely, Listening (listening) and Reading (reading) sessions.
Listening Test
In the Listening test session, participants will be asked to
listen to conversations and questions in English, and then participants must
answer any questions and problems that are heard from the discourse that is
played with a duration of no more than 45 minutes.

TOEIC
Speaking and Writing
The speaking test in TOEIC Speaking and Writing serves to
measure the ability in the way of pronunciation, intonation and emphasis,
grammar, vocabulary, word integration in sentences, relevance and completeness
of the content.
Whereas the writing test in TOEIC Speaking and Writing
functions to measure the ability to organize the language, the suitability of
the sentence written with the picture presented, the quality and variation of
sentences, vocabulary, sentence structure, and opinion supported by reason and
or example.
Speaking
Section
The ability to speak is indispensable for presentations,
communicating face to face, conferences through the video call feature, and
conversations by telephone. This
speaking test is designed to test a person's ability to communicate
verbally. This test lasts approximately
20 minutes.

TOEIC
Bridge
TOEIC Bridge is the right test to measure beginner and intermediate
English proficiency. Designed to
evaluate the development of the English learning process. This test measures the ability to listen and
understand discourse.
This test has international standards to measure the
effectiveness of teaching English. This
test uses vocabulary, phrases and expressions that are commonly used in daily
life.
Test
Form
TOEIC Bridge is available in written and online
formats. Consisting of 100 multiple
choice questions, this test has a 90 minute work time, in which 60 minutes to
answer questions and 30 minutes to fill out a short questionnaire regarding the
educational background of the participants.
TOEIC Bridge consists of two sessions, namely:

Listening Comprehension
Participants will be asked to listen and
listen to statements, questions, dialogues, and brief talks in English. Then participants answered 50 questions based
on what was heard. This session lasts 25 minutes and consists of three parts:

System. In this test participants will

FORM
OF IELTS TEST
In IELTS there is a structure which contains discussion

modules, and general modules. From this
module can be clarified for its own purposes.
For academic modules, this module will be intended for participants who
will continue their tertiary education.
In addition, the IELTS certificate can also be used by several
professions, such as doctors and nurses who will carry out their duties or work
in countries with English-speaking countries.
As for the general module, it is used for participants who
will register or attend non-academic training, as supplementary work experience
material, or other matters.
In general, the form of IELTS test is divided into four
parts or forms of test. The test from
IELTS is listening, reading, writing and speaking. When testing abilities, the listening,
